A Day in Alabama

Last week, us girls were able to visit some friends of ours in Alabama. Since two of my sisters and one of their girls have a birthday in the same week, we had cake and ice cream for them, and had a really fun day out at their house. We took turns riding their horse, and it was a lot of fun!

Our First Garden!

We are really excited to have a garden for the first time this year! We've got big plans to grow lots and lots of vegetables! The only problem is, no one really wants to clean and cut and can those vegetables! So far, we've planted green beans, pink-eyed purple-hulled peas, yellow squash, cucumbers, zucchini, okra, and carrots. We're waiting another week or so to put in the tomato plants. It's a good thing we waited, 'cause it's getting cold this evening! :-)

The Tale of the Two Cakes

It was Saturday night, and we knew company was coming the next day. Rachel and I decided to each make a cake...mine was yellow cake w/chocolate frosting, and Rachel's was white cake w/white frosting. Things were going good...neither of the cakes tore up when they were taken out of their pans...the frosting turned out to be the right color...everything just seemed to be going really well for once! As I was admiring my finished cake - which definitely didn't look as good as the pic in the book, but didn't look terrible, either - I discovered that one of my younger sisters was making a design on wax paper with some of my leftover frosting and flowers. I was so ashamed!!! She hadn't even taken the class, and here she was making an arrangement that looked 100 times better than mine! (I think I'm going to give up this idea of decorating cakes, and stick to simple things!lol!)
Rachel's cake turned out pretty good, I thought. We cleaned up our mess, and were busy doing different things when Dad came in and took a look at our cakes. He discovered that Rachel's cake had three small cracks in the top. We figured it was no big deal, it could be fixed in the morning. But by an hour later, the top layer of the cake was totally split into three large cracks! By the morning, it looked like someone had cut three giant slices of cake! Nobody dared to mess with the cake - we just served it like it was. I didn't get any pics of her cake after it split, but I wish I had! Oh, well, it tasted really good, anyway! :-)

Isn't Tennessee Pretty?

Another update, finally! Sorry, but I tend to save up all my pics and then post them on the same day! We've been pretty busy for the last couple of weeks, so I've got lots of pics to post! I thought I'd start out with some I took while we were on the road. I think Tennessee is one of the prettiest states in the country!

Mule Day 2008

Columbia, TN, is Mule Capitol of the World!
(In case y'all didn't know! lol)

The annual Mule Day Festival was held this past weekend, and we attended the parade, as well as some special events at the park. This was the 200th year to hold the festival, so it is a big tradition. Hope you enjoy a few pics (33 to be exact) that I took this week!

we really enjoyed the Navy Band!
